Area Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then located numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a shooter targeting residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
