The fast bowler Poised for a Significant Contribution in Ashes Series

Australian cricket captain

Pat Cummins has taken 309 Test scalps in 71 appearances with an stellar bowling average.

The Australian selection chief the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in this winter's historic rivalry.

Rumors had circulated that the 32-year-old might miss the series due to a ongoing back issue that had not yet healed.

Initial reports from team management suggested no official announcement had been made regarding Cummins' participation, with the Test matches set to start on 21 November in the WACA.

The selector shared that the captain is progressing and felt positive about the likelihood of participating.

"We're aware that the clock is ticking and multiple considerations at play, not only his injury, but other factors as well," he commented.

"The outlook is good. [We are] really confident that he'll participate in a significant role. Ideally starting in Perth. If not, we'll reassess."

Past Concerns

He was sidelined Australia's limited-overs series against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after medical tests showed a lumbar bone stress.

He has a history of spinal problems, with flare-ups in multiple past seasons forcing him out of three Australian summers in four years.

The bowler mentioned he would be ""aggressive" and "take risks" in his recovery plan to make the squad for the contest.

He mentioned that there was no confirmation if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his recovery but acknowledged it was "pressing" for him to be fit for the opener.

Contingency Plans

If he's unavailable, ex-skipper Smith will take over the captaincy.

All-rounder Cameron Green was recently pulled out from Australia's squad for their one-day international series against India as a preventive step because of discomfort in his torso.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the state-level matches, so will be "ideally positioned to deliver overs."

"We put so much time has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the opening match as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the first two ODIs regardless. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for 24 more hours, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
