'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith resumes battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative strike from outside the box, and the defender promptly slammed home the rebound before racing off toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory completed an incredible comeback given Swansea had trailed 2-0 midway through the latter period. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're humans, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a fourth-round match at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right defensive wing after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they are adept at control and slow down a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even noticing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It requires a strong mentality and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At the London club he joined forces once more with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he departed Old Trafford.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it appears possession is exchanged without serious challenge. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to adapt rapidly."

International Recognition

His progress reflects that growth for both domestically and internationally, performing well for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including two matches encounters against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the supreme accolade, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a decisive through ball.

Early Days

This represents quite the ride for the player from the local area in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who used to see his dad, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, chuckling. "The days leading up, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was incredible."

Leaving United

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged 16? "It was fairly simple, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I thought I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually progressing again."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's pleasant to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and driving. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

While playing for Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
